About this webinar
Professor Richards will share his insights from 20 years of research into the topic of anaemia, and cover global and regional cause-specific anaemia prevalence, symptoms of anaemia and the spectrum of iron deficiency. He’ll also share findings from his research, review case studies and show the impact diet and exercise has on iron deficiency.
About the speaker
Professor Toby Richard
Professor Richards is the Lawrence Brown Chair in Vascular Surgery, Head of Division of Surgery and Director of the Clinical Trials Unit at University of Western Australia (UWA). He is also Honorary Professor at the Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology, University College London (UCL) and Honorary Professor of Anaesthesia at Monash University. He is actively involved in clinical trial collaborations nationally with RACS CTANZ and ANZCA trials network as well as internationally in the UK, USA, Singapore and Malaysia.
Trained at St Bartholomew’s Medical School, London he graduated in 1995 with distinction. Trained at Oxford and in Melbourne he has been a Professor of Surgery since 2015. His research work and career has focused on the perioperative care of surgical patients, specifically, the impact of iron deficiency and anaemia on patients mental and physical health. He has led: the Cochrane review on iron therapy and IPMA on Patient Blood Management also clinical trials of iron therapy in; abdominal surgery (PREVENTT), cardiac surgery (ITACS), #NOF (IRONNOF), ICU care (IRONMAN), women’s health (IRONWOMAN) and mechanistic studies on iron and mitochondrial function.
